X.Org Foundation Taps Software Freedom Law Center for Legal Services

The Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC), provider of pro-bono legal services to protect and advance Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), today announced it will represent The X.Org Foundation, the global consortium that develops and supports X Window System technology and standards. X Window System, an open source project, is the underlying technology behind the graphical user interface (GUI) used on all UNIX and Linux operating systems and is also popular on Macintosh, Windows and other operating systems.

X Window System gives computer users complete flexibility in how they choose to have information presented on their computers, said Leon Shiman, board member, The X.Org Foundation. We have more than 20 years invested in our technology from many different companies and individuals. With the assistance of the Law Center we can continue to focus our efforts around work on standards and code, confident that our legal house is in order.

We're pleased to represent the X.Org Foundation, said Eben Moglen, chair of the Software Freedom Law Center. The foundation is a global consortium of some of the world's largest companies all committed to working together on this critical graphical user interface technology.
